I'm going to add something to my format

I'm going to start doing reviews of albums I don't own, just to add some variety.  First, I think I'll do Contra by Vampire Weekend.

EDIT: Ok, strike that.  What I'm doing now is listening to albums recommended by IMDb Music General community, starting with Jimmy Buffett's Son of a Son of a Sailor.  I'll be writing short reviews which I will film and post on YouTube, under the username NonExistentReviews.

A word about the impending Kanye review

Right now, I'm writing a review of Kanye's monstrously overrated Fantasy, which I plan to film for YouTube under the username "SuburbanProspector."

"But, Cam," you might say, "It doesn't take more than a quick glance at your posts to tell that you aren't anything close to a fan of rap.  Why are you making your first video review about the most critically-lauded hip-hop album of 2010?"

Because, quite frankly, I'm sick of all of the positive reviews I've seen of the album.  I just want to provide an alternate opinion so that there's at least one record that shows that not everybody who heard it fell in love with the vacuous tripe that it is.  I'd go on, but then there wouldn't be anything left to say in the review.  I'll post it here as soon as I'm finished filming it.

First new bands of 2011!

I went out to the record store yesterday, and picked up my first new artists of the year, which are also  my first purchases (Northern Lights doesn't count because I bought it sometime in late December; I just forgot to post about it before the first).  My purchases are Thursday's War All the Time, Zwan's Mary Star of the Sea, and Radiohead's Kid A.  I'll listen to and rate them all sometime during the next week.

Just remembered my second update...

I bought the White Stripes' (Stripes's?) live album, Under Great White Northern Lights, on good ol' 180-g vinyl.

Two updates:

Really one, but whatever.  I've listened to and rated Pablo Honey and LOVE.  LOVE falls under my normal AvA classification of "decent", and Pablo Honey is a surprisingly good '90s alt-rock album.  If Radiohead hadn't rocked the world  with Ok Computer, they might have a retrospective favorite à la Pinkerton and Clarity.
